Nabil A. Khan

Nabil is a divinity school graduate who currently works in grants management at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, and previously was a researcher at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Columbia University Medical Center. Working with Dr. Lance Laird at Boston University School of Medicine, he has conducted research on American Muslim community-based health organizations. He grew up in the United Arab Emirates, and has experience in hotel management and community organizing.

Masood Iqbal, BSc, MCP, ITIL

Masood has over 20 years of Information Technology experience and over 25 years of experience in customer service with American Airlines. Besides being a co-founder of Worry Free Community; Masood is a co-founder of Worry Free Insurance group LLC and founder of Abdul Rafay Foundation. He has developed and coordinated outreach programs in Mosque communities and has participated in research projects with initiative on Islam and Medicine on living organ donation and End of life care, where he served as a peer educator. Masood manages systems and communications of Worry Free organizations and a licensed producer of Insurance in Health and Property and Casualty. His licensure bridges the gap between access to care and community resources. He also uses his expertise to educate and build competency for communities in Medicaid, Medicare, and ACA Health plans. Aside from his work obligation, he likes to be on quest for knowledge in spirituality and Islamic studies. He is currently a student of Shaikh ul Hind at Dar Ul Qasim in Glendale Heights.

Asna Abir Khan

Asna is a recent graduate with a B.S in Healthcare Administration from Loyola University. Her knowledge in community health, community engagement and social work services is shown throughout in working at various non-profit organizations. Her most recent accomplishments included training community-based organizations to use AMITA Health’s Community Resources social services platform to help bridge the gap between communities who don’t have access to resources and to increase community engagement. At World Relief Chicago, Asna assisted in applying for employment and other public aid services for refugees and asylees. She has received positive feedback from her peers/coworkers regarding her planning, implementation and delivery of projects. During her academic career, she volunteered in many organizations and helped in a research study about environmental impacts on global health which was later presented and recognized in the community’s newsletter. Urooj Rehman

Urooj Rehman earned her Master’s in Business and Project Management at Keller Graduate School of Management. Established the initiative of Worry Free Health, WFH, in 2013 to support the ACA health coverage enrollments for the community. WFH endeavor ensures strives to fill in the health coverage gaps for the uninsured and underinsured by offering and enrolling in appropriate coverage. Licensed and certified in 12 separate states for Marketplace Coverage and specializes in S.H.O.P. and employer health insurance. For the past 8 years, Urooj has been involved resolving issues related to access to care by helping people navigate to find appropriate coverages for primary care, specialty care, medication, and other related medical and health care services. Target population include new immigrants of all ages, seniors and teenagers struggling with changes in Insurances, Medicare and Medicaid, Prescription drug plans and Medicare, Prescription drug plans and Medicare Advantage Plans. She is also a Co-founder of Worry Free Community and serves on its board of Directors.

Muneeb Ansari

Muneeb Ansari is currently a first-year MD Candidate at the University of Illinois at Chicago in the Urban Medicine Program. He graduated in 2019 from The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a degree in Chemistry and worked for ICNA Relief as a Mobile Clinic Manager during his gap year. He has won several awards for leadership and enjoys distance running and mentoring in his free time.

Dr. Ganiat Sarumi

Dr. Ganiat Sarumi began her career more than 40 years ago as a clerk in a small private clinic in Lagos,Nigeria prior to becoming a Certified Nurse Midwife from Lagos State School of Nursing, Awolowo Road.

Her passion to help others has enabled her to advance her career and pursue a lifelong education. Dr. Sarumi is a graduate of Chicago State University where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. She then obtained her Master's degree at Depaul University and completed her Doctoral degree at Governor State University.

Dr. Sarumi has over thirty years of experience in Public Health with special interests in maternal child and faith community health.

Dr. Sarumi is an adjunct clinical instructor at City Colleges of Chicago, a guest instructor at Northpark University and a preceptor for first year medical students at Northwestern /Children's Hospital.

Dr. Sarumi is also a Faith Community Nurse and a Trauma Informed instructor. She is the secretary of Illinois Nurses Association, a member of the American Nurses Association and the Nigerian Illinois Nurses Association. In addition to her nursing practice, she is on the board of Nigerian Islamic Association and the Masjid Al Farooq Community Health.

Lubna Hassan

Short bio. (around 150 words): I grew up in the north suburban city of Vernon Hills, IL. I graduated from Northwestern in 2018 with a degree in Computer Science. After which, I began a small company and entered Pharmacy school at University of Illinois in Chicago. I am dedicated to using my technological skills to find ways to improve the lives of others. I love discovering ways to integrate technology into our lives in easy and effective ways. I also have a dedication to quality and a talent for developing innovative solutions to unusual and difficult problems.

Mahreen Bux, MPH

Mahreen Bux is a fourth-year dual degree DO/MBA student at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences and Rockhurst University Helzberg School of Management in Kansas City, Missouri. She completed both her undergraduate degree in Community Health with a concentration in Health Planning and Administration and her Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Prior to beginning medical school, she worked in a small, rural community in southern Illinois to create a patient database to assess the effectiveness of a nutrition and exercise program based on participant surveys and compliance measured through changes in weight and fat percentage before and after starting the program. She then worked as a research assistant at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and received training in IRB protocol and data analysis in order to assist physicians publish their research. Throughout medical school, she has had the chance to work with diverse populations in a variety of settings, from a free health clinic in rural Missouri to large suburban hospitals in the Chicagoland area. In the future, she hopes to pursue a career in primary care, participate in community health outreach initiatives and improve health disparities among underserved populations. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, painting, exercising and spending quality time with family and friends.

Jamiu Odunsi Jr. (Jimmy)

Jimmy is a recent college graduate who earned his B.S. in kinesiology at the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign. His interest in sciences and knowledge of the human body led him to pursue a career in the health field. His focus on physical rehabilitation and mental health lead him to participate in several research studies during his collegiate days, both as an undergraduate assistant and as a subject. In 2019, he was granted the opportunity to present is his findings at that year’s annual research symposium held by the university. Now that undergrad is completed, Jimmy looks to either pursue a career in human resources within the health care field or further his education at PA school. He is looking forward to new opportunities as they will help him build the necessary skills and leadership qualities for his promising career. During Jimmy’s leisure time he enjoys being active and hanging with friends.

Wasan Sharieh, MD

Miss Sharieh is a fresh medical graduate with an extensive volunteering experience with patients and other vulnerable people of the community. Her experience included organizing a couple of free health events for students at the University of Jordan as well as holding a free eye screening event for orphans and following up with some cases. Wasan has also been a dedicated member of a Non-profit organization (Bel-Arabi/In Arabic) during her medical school years. She was mainly a part of a special project (The Visual Library) that aims to produce animated videos that explain common medical diseases in a simple way. She is currently interested in the fields of chronic diseases, infectious diseases, community screening programs, public speaking & marketing. With her passion for drawing a smile on everyone’s face around her, she is welling to keep this trend until the benefit could reach as much people as possible.

Meher Din

Meher Din is a recent graduate from DePaul University with degrees in Public Health, Spanish, and International Politics. As a student, Meher was heavily involved with community service engaging with diverse communities across the Chicago-land area on issues such as immigration, maternal and child health, social justice, and education. As an emerging Public Health professional, Meher plans to implement these learned ideas of justice and equity into a health care framework which accounts for and upholds the dignity of all people. Meher is passionate about social and economic justice, and specifically how these goals intersect with public health and global development. Meher is a mission-driven worker dedicated to uplifting communities in need and exploring innovative ways to build a more just and equitable society for all. Aside from her work as a community advocate and change agent, Meher enjoys spending time outdoors, cooking new dishes, playing music, and spending time with family and friends.

Jawairiya Rasool, M.B.B.S.

Jawairiya is a foreign trained physician who grew up in the US but pursued medical studies in Karachi, Pakistan. She is very passionate about community health projects and finding better ways to serve and educate people. Her concern for underserved communities presenting to her medical school hospital led her to help found a patient care association. There she worked with other organizations to coordinate care and resources for those who needed it. Since then she has enthusiastically been involved in research and development of programs that shrink the gap in receiving adequate medical care. She looks forward to pursuing a career in medicine that not only serves the individuals she will treat but also local communities and worldwide. In addition to her professional development, she regularly indulges in arts & crafts projects and is working towards a Bachelors in Islamic Science online.

Shama Vohra-Mian, MD.

Shama is a motivated and very dedicated health professional. Recently having graduated medical school, Shama comes from an extensive patient oriented medical background. She also has roots in research related experience, having recently worked on a project at Seton Hall University with Parkinson’s patients, in which she played a leadership role. Shama’s interests are deeply engrained in community betterment, as is evident by her extensive work within the community as a volunteer for APNA clinic/ CCN network/ VPEP. She also has worked as a case manager within a free medical clinic to help patients get the best of care regardless of their socioeconomic status. Another passion of hers, is medical writing, and in the past she has served as an editor a medical journal. Aside from her career, Shama is very passionate about Studying religion, her faith and her family.

Andrea Garcia Brown

Andrea is an energetic public health advocate who has recently accepted her placement at Boston University for her MPH. Before relocating to Boston in the summer of 2021, she is a temporary Partner Engagement Specialist at the Greater Chicago Food Depository and a volunteer birth doula through Chicago Volunteer Doulas. She was placed in Chicago in 2018 through AmeriCorps VISTA to serve as a Health and Nutrition Coordinator at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. After a year of service, she transitioned to a Health Coach and Health Educator at Heartland Health Centers in Albany Park for a short term AmeriCorps position. She is primarily interested in food justice, providing and locating resources for supporting local food systems, perinatal health and reproductive justice. As an avid volunteer in the greater Chicago area, Andrea looks forward to serving new communities and finding ways to give back.

Abdurrahman Bheri, MBBS

Abdurrahman is a medical graduate with a strong background in both medicine and Islamic sciences. He earned his MBBS from Wenzhou Medical University in Zhejiang, China. He chose to study abroad for a new challenge as this allowed for him to develop interpersonal skills for new cultures and learn Mandarin. During his time there he participated in research projects and advocacy projects from raising awareness for autistic children in the mainland and paving the way for Muslim students to be able to practice their religion. He was at the top 10 percent of his graduating class and completed a year-long internship in one of the largest hospitals in mainland China, The First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, where he treated patients under some of the country’s most prominent physicians. Since his journey overseas, he has come back to his home in Chicagoland where he is studying for his boards along with being active in the community. He has been part of active projects serving underserved communities with Compassionate Care Network, along with playing a role in fighting the Covid-19 outbreak. During the pandemic, he has been active in telemedicine efforts, geared towards education, prevention, and detection of Covid-19, and has been working at the Covid-19 community-based testing facility where he is at the front lines of disease detection. Aside from his professional activities, Abdurrahman enjoys biking, cooking, and photography.

Assem Ellythy

Assem is a recent graduate with a Bachelor's in Science, majoring in Biology from the University of Illinois at Chicago. During undergrad, he was involved in research in the EXERT lab at UIC. He studied the microvasculature and the role it plays in vascular diseases among various patient populations. His passion for healthcare influenced him to participate in several community health fairs. Passionate about the youth in his community, he has been a Summer Camp counselor with the Muslim American Society in the past several years. He currently works as an EMT and is applying to medical school to become a physician. He is passionate about improving the healthcare system in our country and how to improve delivery and access to healthcare. During his free time, he enjoys hiking and playing board games with family and friends.
